The Vertical
is a robust and stable loom made of hardwood. It can support great warp tensions and it's ideal for carpets and tapestries.
Technical specifications:
Beechwood finished
with a solution of waxes and vegetable oils. The fabric advances by sliding and the warp tension is adjustable. Available in a 80, 100 and 120 cm tall versions with a top or bottom heddle.
The sides, with a compact structure, have a mortise and tenon joint
with wooden nail. The crossbeams are joined to the sides of the loom with the traditional system of wooden wedges.
The web is created with the use of a dividing rod set in the top part of the loom and of a heddle made of a hand made rope.

How to tell if the Vertical loom is the right one for you? Generally speaking, with this kind of loom you can weave anything you wish, from a Persian rug to a bridal veil; the Greeks used to beat the fabric from bottom to top, the Egyptians from top to bottom, someone used it horizontally, someone else vertically, but for everybody this was the "loom".
Today the vertical loom is used almost exclusively to make carpets and tapestries, where it is still unrivalled. You can find it in a specialized boutique, in a shopping center or in a suk, but you will not be able to find a nice Kilim or a good carpet that has been woven or knotted on a loom other than the vertical one.
